BRAINZ is a continuously evolving collaborative collage that embodies the creative spirit of modification and community engagement. Composed of over 400 cards, the piece was crafted from found materials and enriched by the artistic contributions of both friends and strangers. Participants were given complete freedom to alter, design, and create without constraints, resulting in a diverse array of styles and details that reflect the uniqueness of each individual. With no rules guiding the process, the artwork developed organically as an expression of collective creativity. Artist Thomas Chang contributed over 50% of the designs, while many cards remain in circulation throughout the Southside of Chicago—whether at the bottom of a bookshelf or even in the trash, each card holds the potential to continue the life of BRAINZ. As long as one piece survives, the artwork lives on, growing and evolving with time, extending its reach beyond the gallery and into the world around it.
